Dear visitors,
"In the end we all become stories" -Margaret Atwood
I want my story to be that I loved. I want people to remember me for being a light in the darkness and for the kindness I give to others. Let me introduce myself. My name is Aida. I grew up in Philadelphia, a community where people of color, especially Black Women, were not meant to have the necessary resources to effectively succeed in life, or better yet, survive. But, I've had great people in my life that has provided me with opportunities that I am eternally grateful for. Growing up, I've always been the shy and awkward kid. I struggled to find my identity until I fell in love with fashion. I've always been passionate about both fashion and art. Those have been two outlets that have allowed me to communicate who I am in a way that words cannot.
Creative director, innovator, designer, strategist, and storyteller. This is what I am striving to become as a professional. As a student at Thomas Jefferson University, I am studying Fashion Merchandising And Management with a concentration in Global Brand Strategy and a minor in Psychology. I am passionate about not just art and fashion but also human connection and behavior. I am president of BRAG (Black Retail Action Group) which both educates and prepares students of color in fashion and related industries. I am so happy and thankful to be apart of a group that celebrates voices of color. Fashion and art has played an important role in constructing my identity and I am so excited to continue on this journey of life and my career.
Another way I have been able to express myself is through my online jewelry business, Kalopsia. I design and make earrings and I am hoping to make it a fashion line soon. It has gone greatly well and I’ve learned a lot about marketing, planning, design, and staying consistent in general. It has also taught me more about the business world. Kalopsia is my Jewelry business. I started Kalopsia in February of 2021. I love the 80s era so my plan was to make my shop 80s themed. My business has been flourishing and overall I’ve built great relationships with my customers, who some, are literally my good friends now. My goal for my business is to continue to give most of my proceeds to a cause. I will most actively be giving to 2 causes in particular, gun violence and homelessness. I've been deeply effected my gun violence as I saw my friend and other community members die as a result of it. Homelessness has always been an issue on my heart. Due to covid, I've seen more and people become homeless. The number is rising and I'd like to create an organization to combat it. As of now I will continue to organize small homeless drives with my peers.
